Newbies are in most cases new players. However, the term 'Newbie' is used to anyone under level 20 so even some highbies who reincarnate and stay under level 20, are called newbies until they increase their level to 20 again.

Newbie-status gains some bonuses to the player. For example respawning after death only takes 30% of the player's unspent experience. Newbies are also safe from player killers as long as they don't become criminals.
